Redefining Development Means Rethinking How It’s Financed
At the Policy Centre for Afrocentric Development (PCAD), we are reimagining not only what development looks like but how it is supported. We are aware that funding often shapes priorities in ways that undermine real transformation. It imposes short-term thinking, external agendas, and rigid frameworks that fail to account for Africa’s complex realities. That’s why PCAD takes a different approach.
We are guided by a principled commitment to what is good for Africa and as such, we don’t accept funding that compromises our values or our independence.
Instead, we rely on two mutually reinforcing streams of support:
- Contributions from individuals who share our mission for a just, inclusive and resilient Africa
- Strategic partnerships with institutions whose missions are aligned with ours
For Readers and Supporters: Help Sustain Independent, African-Led Work
We turn to people like you because we believe development must be rooted in solidarity, ownership, and shared responsibility.
Your contribution helps us to:
- Challenge outdated narratives and externally imposed models
- Produce rigorous, context-driven research and analysis
- Develop advocacy materials in various formats (video explainers, social media posts, podcasts etc).
- Develop practical, Afrocentric alternatives
Because we are selective about where we raise funding from, your support plays a vital role in sustaining our Afro-centric work. Every contribution makes a difference.

For Institutions: Commission High-Quality, Contextual Expertise
PCAD partners with institutions that want to engage more deeply with Africa’s development challenges beyond manuals and checklists.
We offer services that are technically sound, structurally aware and grounded in lived African realities. These include:
- Policy research and analysis to inform evidence-based decision-making
- Legal and institutional advisory to support rights-based governance and reform
- Capacity development and training for public servants, civil society, and intergovernmental actors
These services are delivered on a fee-for-service basis, providing meaningful value while helping PCAD to sustain its work. We engage only with partners who respect our intellectual autonomy and share our commitment to structural, Afrocentric, and people-centred development.
Why Work With Us?
- We help you localize and decolonize your programming. Our insights illuminate the political economy of reform, institutional constraints, and the systemic drivers that shape policy outcomes so that your efforts are more grounded and impactful.
- We support smarter, more values-aligned investments. By surfacing root causes and locally grounded alternatives, we help you avoid superficial fixes and co-create lasting solutions.
- We work alongside national and regional bodies to strengthen institutions, align policies with local priorities, and design multi-sector strategies that support resilience, inclusion, and sovereignty.
- We help amplify your advocacy and expand your influence. Our support connects micro-level organizing with broader systems analysis, enabling civil society actors to be both strategic and transformative.
We welcome collaborations on:
- Advisory engagements
- Joint research initiatives
- Capacity-strengthening programmes
- Advocacy and public sensitisation
- Long-term strategic partnerships
